Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
