“It was regrettable. It was kind of an exchange with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones explained during a radio appearance. “Present was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was filled with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the signal was entirely accidental, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s final touchdown. “I just showed the wrong digit,” he remarked. “It was inadvertently done. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. However, it got resolved rapidly.”

This is not the initial instance an league proprietor has been penalized for misconduct. Recent examples involve:
- Carolina Panthers proprietor Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at fans in January 2024.
