British Air Force Typhoon fighter aircraft have operated alongside France's air force in a combined operation targeting an subterranean weapons facility in Syria employed by the IS group, as stated by the UK Ministry of Defence.
The facility, located using surveillance, was assessed as storing arms and explosives, the statement said, and was positioned in mountains just to the north of the historic site of Palmyra in Syria's central region.
"The RAF jets employed laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to hit a series of entry passages leading to the depot... initial indications are that the target was engaged successfully," the MoD said.
There was no sign of any civilian casualties in the operation on Saturday evening and all the aircraft returned to base without incident, the ministry further stated.
The British jets were supported by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.
Daesh - referred to as the so-called Islamic State - established militant control over significant areas in Syria and Iraq until 2019.
"This strike shows the UK's leading role, and commitment to stand shoulder to shoulder with allied nations, to stamp out any revival of IS and their violent and radical beliefs in the Middle East," Britain's Defence Chief the minister remarked.
UK warplanes have performed overwatch operations over Syrian airspace to "prevent any attempted resurgence" of the group after its military defeat at the climactic battle in Baghuz in 2019, the authorities noted.
"I want to thank the personnel of our armed forces involved in this operation for their expertise and their valour," he added. "They were among thousands of British troops on duty over Christmas and New Year. This action, to remove terrorist threats who pose a risk to our safety, demonstrates how British military are always on standby, throughout the year, keeping Britain secure within its borders and powerful internationally."

The United Nations reports IS still maintains roughly 5-7 thousand militants in Iraq and Syria.
